Waiohinu well (08-0437-01), Hawaii

The Waiohinu well (08-0437-01) is located in the southern part of the island of Hawaii. Water levels reflect the altitude of the water table in rocks of Mauna Loa Volcano. The well was drilled by the US Geological Survey in 1994 and monitoring began in 1997. The well was drilled to a depth of 1,000 ft from an altitude of about 1,300 ft. The well is open to the aquifer between altitudes of 1,059 and 327 ft. This station is operated by Ben Shimizu of the Honolulu field office.
