HAWAII VOLCANIC-ROCK AQUIFER STUDYSTUDY AREAThe eight main islands in the State of Hawaii have a total land area of 6,420 square miles and highest elevation of 13,796 feet. About 70 percent of the 1.36 million population lives on Oahu (which includes the capital city of Honolulu). Major industries in Hawaii include tourism, government (including military), and agriculture. The Hawaii Volcanic-Rock Aquifer study will focus on the largest and most populated islands, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island (island of Hawaii).
